Enforcing your Foreign Judgement in Ireland

Date:

Judgements of the Courts of the EU Member States sought to be enforced in Ireland originate primarily from the Courts of England and Germany. Applications to enforce the Judgements of the courts of other Member States are very rare. It will be interesting to see which of the ten new Member States, following their accession on 01/05/04, will be first to apply to have their Court Orders recognised in Ireland. The burden to translate the applicant courts documents has been minimised by the Brussels I Regulations but as the enforcement application can be made to the Master of the High Court the costs of enforcement remain high.
